What exhaust drone actually is — and why it ruins good pipes

Drone is the low, constant resonance you hear at steady cruising RPM — the frequency where exhaust pulses reinforce each other inside the cabin of sound around you. It's the single most common regret riders report after fitting a new exhaust.

Why it shows up at cruise

Around town you're constantly changing RPM, so the resonant frequency never sustains. On the highway you hold one RPM for minutes at a time, and if that lands on the system's resonant peak, the drone becomes fatiguing fast.

What reduces it

Baffles and packing absorb energy at the problem frequencies. Longer mid-pipes, larger volume mufflers, and resonators shift the peak out of your cruise range. A removable dB baffle is the cheapest insurance against drone.

How Dezybel handles it

Every report estimates drone risk as low, moderate, or high, names the approximate cruise-RPM band where it appears, and factors your highway usage into the recommendation.
